Visit the best spots in the Asheville and Blue Ridge Mountains area for exploring macro photography with award-winning nature and fine art photographer Chris or Bonnie Allen. Get in close for intimate nature images and receive hands-on instruction to help you hone your photography skills and make better photos.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are home to many species of colorful wildflowers, ferns, trees and other beautiful botanicals. Learn how to make closeup / macro portraits and intimate scenes that capture the mood and spirit of the plants and their habitat.

Start times may vary depending on the season, weather patterns and sunrise/sunset times. Asheville Photo tours will notify participants of meeting times and locations upon registration.

It is strongly recommended that you bring a macro or closeup lens, extension tubes, closeup diopter, and / or lens such as Lensbaby; and a tripod or other type of camera support.

What is a photo tour?

Photo tours are half-day or full-day, hands on photography excursions led by Bonnie or Chris Allen. You will visit the best spots for stunning photography depending on weather and seasonal conditions. Your guide will provide individualized and group instruction based on skill level and interests.

Where does the tour meet?

You will drive your own car and meet with your guide(s) at a predetermined location. You will be notified of the meeting location in the week prior to your tour date.

Who should attend?

Tours are intended for photographers of all levels from beginner to advanced who want to explore the beauty of the Asheville and Blue Ridge area.

Are children allowed?

Please no children or pets. Adolescents who have a camera and a strong interest in photography are welcome to join the tour.

Are there any physical restrictions?

Participants should be in reasonable physical condition and able to handle short (under one mile) hikes with your camera gear.

Is hiking involved?

Most stops will be along the roadside. In some cases, a short hike of less than a mile may be required to get to the best spot.

What should I bring?

Bring your camera along with your manual (if you still have it) and be sure to bring adequate water and snacks. You are also encouraged to bring a macro, or closeup lens, extension tubes, closeup diopter, and/or lens such as Lensbaby; and a tripod or other type of camera support.

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably and wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. Long pants, layers and rain gear are recommended to cover changing weather conditions.
