Good To Know

  • This stargazing experience takes place on the slopes of Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa. The exact viewing location is selected each evening based on cloud cover and crowd levels to ensure the best possible night-sky visibility.
  • Plan for about two hours of guided stargazing. During the experience, an astronomer leads the group in exploring constellations, galaxies, nebulae, and planets using a high-powered telescope and laser pointer.
  • Complimentary Milky Way portrait photos are included and are typically delivered within 24 hours after the tour.
  • Stargazing takes place below 9,000 feet in elevation to reduce the chances of altitude sickness while still providing excellent dark-sky viewing conditions.
  • Temperatures can drop quickly at night on the mountain. Warm parka jackets are provided, but wearing long pants and comfortable closed-toe shoes is strongly recommended.
  • Arriving about 10 minutes before the scheduled start time helps ensure a smooth check-in. Booking early in the trip is also recommended in case weather conditions require rescheduling.
